Despite its limited resources, the Philippine government has done an excellent job fighting the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), according to Malacanang on Tuesday, following Vice President Leni Robredo’s remarks on alleged shortcomings in the country’s pandemic response.

Despite its limited resources and status as a middle-income country, the Philippines has one of the lowest fatality rates in the world, “comparatively lower than many and most countries.”

“While other nations have completely closed their borders, tayo ay nagpapasok ng ating mga Filipino overseas, and we welcomed them home,” he continued.

“Iyong ating immunization drive po natin is 57,514,283 individuals fully vaccinated, at marami pa po tayong mga tagumpay sa laban against Covid-19,” he said.

The public, according to Nograles, must focus on working together to defeat the virus because the Covid-19 war is not only the responsibility of the government.

“Hindi po ito solo-solo, lahat po dapat tayo magtulungan, dahil tayong lahat, mga kababayan, ang kalaban natin dito ay ang Covid-19. At ito iyong panahon kung saan lahat dapat tayo ay doon ang natin focus,” he said.

Since the outbreak began in 2020, the country has registered 3,459,646 confirmed Covid-19 cases. More than 3.1 million people have recovered, 53,598 people have died, and 247,451 people are continuing treatment.

Robredo said on Monday that she is “working to fill in the gaps,” stating that the government’s pandemic response has many flaws that have delayed the country’s recovery.
