In C. Visayas, all Omicron cases have recovered: Executive Director of the Department of Health

Only three of the 24 new instances of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in Central Visayas were admitted for treatment, and all of the patients recovered.

Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, head pathologist of the Department of Health-Central Visayas (DOH-7) stated in a briefing at the Visayas Vaccination Operations Center on Friday that the region currently has a total of 46 Omicron cases as of January 25 data.

She further explained in a phone interview that, according to statistics from the DOH central office’s Epidemiology Bureau, there were 24 samples positive for the Omicron variation, not 20, as reported by the media.

“The swab specimens for this batch were collected between December 25, 2021 and January 5, 2022,” Loreche explained.

Since the first batch, 378 samples have been sent to the Philippine Genome Center in Quezon City for sequencing.

“Only three people were admitted, but they all recovered.” And everyone is (sic) still alive. The majority of the cases have been immunized. “I believe it’s simply one unvaccinated case,” she explained.

Loreche asked the unvaccinated people in Central Visayas to register with their local government units for inoculation, citing data indicating most Omicron cases who have recovered are fully vaccinated.

She also recommended they receive booster shots if they had already missed the deadline for their third dose.

Loreche stated that booster doses were administered more slowly in Central Visayas, with only 206,886 people receiving them out of a total population of 5.6 million.
