In Pampanga, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed slope protection structures.
The 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO) of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Pampanga has finished the building of slope protection structures along Sapang Uyong in Guagua, this province, which could aid with floods, especially during the rainy season.
The PHP29.3-million revetment structure has a total length of 288 linear meters on the right side and 275 linear meters on the left side of the creek, according to Engineer Gregorio D. Audea Jr., chief of the DPWH-Pampanga 2nd DEO.
In a social media post, Audea said, “This project was funded under the 2021 General Appropriations Act and is projected to provide flood protection for people of the agriculture-based community of Barangay Rizal, Guagua.”
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has been working on several projects to reduce flooding in the province’s low-lying villages, including Macabebe, Masantol, Minalin, Sto. Tomas, and Apalit.
Improvements to the river channel network at the Sapang Maragul River are now underway, including the portland concrete cement paving of the road, 1.2-kilometer concrete slope protection with PVC sheet piling, and the construction of the Sapang Maragul Sluice Gate in Masantol town.
While flooding remains a hazard to many people, DPWH Undersecretary for Unified Project Management Office Operations Emil Sadain previously stated that the drainage enhancement of the Pampanga River channel network would prevent significant river water surface flooding.
