Bacolod City has been ordered to prohibit the use of poll materials that include bar exams.

The city authority in this city has been directed by the Supreme Court to prohibit the display of political and election-related materials that mention the 2020/2021 Bar Exams.

From February 4 to 6, the University of Saint La Salle Bacolod will be one of the local testing centers.

The request was made in a letter dated January 28 written to Mayor Evelio Leonardia, a copy of which was made available online on Monday. Associate Justice Marvic Leonen, the chairperson of the 2020/2021 Bar, made the request in a letter dated January 28 addressed to Mayor Evelio Leonardia.

“We would want to urge that political and election-related item such as tarpaulins and posters that mention or refer to 2020/2021 Bar Examinations be prohibited from being posted,” Leonen added.

The Supreme Court, according to the High Tribunal’s associate justice, has the constitutionally required job of administering the Bar Examinations and the exclusive jurisdiction to govern admission to the profession of law.

It is a “court role that should be handled properly with respect and civility,” he said, adding that he hopes the election candidates and local government will consider the proposal.

“Ultimately, our goal is the success of the Bar Examinees,” Leonen stated, “and this may be accomplished by keeping orderly and pleasant Bar Examinations.”

Lawyer Anna Mickaella Lingat, the local team leader for the Bar Examinations in this city, is in charge of the examinations.

Leonen said in Bar Bulletin 33, series of 2022, that the Supreme Court thanks local governments for their invaluable assistance and consistent responsiveness.
