Since its inception in June 2021, the Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC) has handed out more than PHP541 million in financial assistance to its retirees around the country.

According to ECC Executive Director Stella Zipagan-Banawis, PHP541,440,000 was distributed to 27,072 EC pensioners, each of whom received PHP20,000.

“ECC took into account our retirees in the provision of support because they were also impacted by the Covid-19 epidemic due to their vulnerabilities and the pandemic’s long-term economic impact,” she stated in a recent statement.

Pensioners are those who have suffered a permanent partial or entire disability as a result of their work or working environment.

They can also be the beneficiaries of employees who died as a result of work-related circumstances between January 1, 2020, and May 31, 2021.

The EC Program’s implementing agencies, the Social Security System, and the Government Service Insurance System distributed the funds.

Banawis continued, “These were instantly credited to the pensioners’ accounts or awarded through checks.”

On April 19, 2021, President Rodrigo Duterte signed Administrative Order No. 39, authorizing the ECC to provide financial support to qualifying retirees.
