In Negros Oriental, a solidarity ride for secure elections has been organized.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) in Negros Oriental is organizing a motorbike and bike enthusiast solidarity ride around the province next month to promote safe national and municipal elections on May 9.
The activity, dubbed Ride for S.A.F.E. (safe, accurate, free and fair elections) Pilipinas, will be held in collaboration with the Commission on Elections and the Philippine Army, according to Lt. Col. Ruben Verbo, Jr., head of the Police Community Affairs and Development Unit (PCADU) and public information officer of the Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office.
The March 6 event will cover a 564-kilometer loop around the province, beginning in this city and continuing north to Canlaon City, down to Barangay Mabato in Ayungon town to Mabinay, down to Bais City and Tanjay City, then Pamplona to Sta. Catalina and down to Basay before returning to this capital, according to Verbo.
The ride will end at Rizal Boulevard, where participants will receive a certificate of completion.
In a combination of English and Cebuano, Verbo added, “This is open to all, including politicians and candidates, in support of efforts to ensure safe, peaceful, and orderly elections.”
Those who are interested can register at any police station for a PHP500 fee. In exchange, they will receive a free jersey shirt.
