As it officially handed out the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccinations for children aged 5 to 11 years old on Monday, the Taguig City government transformed part of its vaccination sites into a “superhero carnival” center.

This, according to Taguig Mayor Lino Cayetano, is part of an effort to lessen vaccine apprehension among the age range.

“The city established new vaccination locations in the SM Aura SMX Convention Center and Lakeshore Vaccination Hub, which was specifically designed as a children’s party-like environment, to supplement the pediatric vaccination effort. Vaccinees are greeted by cosplayers and treated to a puppet show, among other attractions. After inoculation, every minor vaccinee is given a prize bag as a simple memento of their bravery “Cayetano explained.

The number of children aged 5 to 11 who have pre-registered for their Covid-19 vaccinations through the “Taguig Registry for Access and Citizen Engagement” (TRACE) as of Monday was 22,814.

Vaccinating minors, according to Cayetano, is part of the City’s preparedness for the start of face-to-face education.

“In Taguig, we feel that vaccination is our most powerful weapon in the fight against the virus. It is past time to begin immunizing our minors, as this is critical as we gradually open our schools to face-to-face classes. We want to provide the best education for our children, and we need to protect them in order to do so “added he.

With Taguig now entering the “new normal,” the local government is asking guardians of kids living or studying in the city to register with TRACE (trace.taguig.gov.ph) or visit TRACE kiosks in their barangays to protect their children from Covid-19.

Dr. Jennifer Lou de Guzman, the city’s vaccination program’s director, said in an interview that having a theme like this makes the inoculation experience more entertaining for youngsters.

De Guzman stated that this move appeared to be fruitful, as approximately 180 youngsters were vaccinated in the first two hours of operation, all of whom appeared to be pleased with their vaccinations at the SM Aura SMX Convention Center.

The vaccination site at SM Aura aims to vaccinate 500 children per day.

During the immunization process, De Guzman also emphasized the importance of following safety protocols.

Teresa See, 44, of Barangay Fort Bonifacio, praised the local administration for coming up with the “superhero carnival theme” since her seven-year-old son was able to get his shot without worry.

She also hopes that other parents with children aged 5 to 11 years old will get their children vaccinated against Covid-19 as soon as possible.

Bernadette Cruz, 31, of Barangay Ususan, who also brought her eight-year-old son, said the sight at SM Aura SMX Convention Center was very reassuring to her youngster, who loved the vaccination thanks to balloons and character mascots on hand.
