The Department of Health in Eastern Visayas (DOH-8) announced on Thursday that the National Vaccination Days (NVD) will be extended until December 3, as certain local governments units (LGUs) in the region requested.

“It is up to the local government to decide whether to prolong or not,” the DOH statement read, implying that the extension is optional.

“Please note that, even if the extension is not granted, our vaccination activities will continue until all of our targets have been vaccinated,” the statement continued.

During the three-day NVD from November 29 to December 1, 421,2220 persons in Eastern Visayas received Covid-19 doses, according to the DOH-8.

Despite the fact that the statistic reflects only 53% of the target, DOH-8 information officer Jelyn Lopez-Malibago stated the large vaccination campaign was a success.

“Considering the hurdles like accessibility and vaccination reluctance in some places,” Malibago said in a message to reporters, “we are delighted that we accomplished that amount.”

Previously, the DOH-8 planned to distribute Covid-19 vaccines to 789,813 people during the region’s intensive vaccination campaign.

Health staff in Region 8 have provided vaccines to 2.19 million people of the 3.36 million target population since the regular immunization rollout began on March 5, 2021.

Approximately 37.5 percent of the target population has been fully vaccinated, with 65.2 percent having taken the first dose.

Six provinces, 136 municipalities, and seven cities make up the region.
