The PH Army headquarters is preparing for the threat of Omicron.
The Philippine Army (PA) headquarters at Fort Bonifacio, Taguig, will make every effort to be ready for the threat posed by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) Omicron strain.
“In a virtual conference today, December 7, the PA’s main headquarters in Taguig City underlined rigorous adherence to health procedures in view of the threat posed by the Covid-19 caused by the novel coronavirus Omicron variant,” Army spokesperson Col. Xerxes Trinidad said.
The virtual meeting was led by Army Operations Center Chief Maj. Christian Agonos, who was joined by infectious disease control officers from PA headquarter offices and units.
The Office of the Army Chief Surgeon emphasized the importance of adhering to basic health standards, continuing vaccination programs, and preparing medical facilities and staff to handle a hypothetical surge during the conference.
Meanwhile, Lt. Col. Ritchiemel Caballes, interim Commander of the Installation Management Command’s 191st Military Police Battalion, underlined the “no vaccine, no admission” rule at Fort Bonifacio and the camp’s rigorous adherence to minimum health requirements.
The Army General Hospital only registered four new confirmed cases from November 30 to December 6, down from a weekly peak of 196 new confirmed cases from August 9 to 15.
According to reports, the Omicron variety is more transmissible than the Delta type, which caused a nationwide outbreak in August.
However, no deaths have been reported as a result of the new variety, which was originally discovered in late November by South African experts.
