The Department of Agriculture (DA) distributed PHP5,000 to farmers in Camalig, Albay, in two consecutive reimbursements under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund – Rice Farmers Financial Assistance (RCEF-RFFA) program.

Dante Alejandro, a town agriculturist, said the recipients were 1,631 farmers who were split into two groups on Monday and Tuesday.

Farmers who have filed the Registry System for Basic Sector in Agriculture, or RSBSA, which also acts as confirmation that they own a rice [field] area, are eligible for cash support, he said in an interview on Tuesday.

At Camalig National High School in Barangay Ilawod, recipients were required to provide their proper identification documents and vaccination card.

Virginia Manreal, 65, of Barangay Del Rosario, told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) that she would spend the money on pesticides and fertilizers to keep their rice farm productive.

Neriza Mandela, 36, a Barangay Comun beneficiary, said she can now purchase rice, vitamins for her children, and fertilizers for their rice farm.

Mandela, like Manreal, expressed gratitude to the DA.

“Maraming salamat sa ibinigay nila na tulong sa amin,” says the speaker. Isang napakalaking tulong nito sa amin (Thank you very much for your help.) This is quite beneficial to us),” she stated.

The monetary assistance distribution began on January 24 in Tabaco City and is anticipated to be completed this month.

The RCEF-RFFA will help and support local farmers to enhance production through sustainable techniques under Republic Act No. 11230, or the Act Instituting a Philippine Labor Force Competencies Competitiveness Program and Free Access to Technical-Vocational Education and Training (Tulong-Trabaho Act).
