Even if they exceeded their population protection goals in 2021, the governments of Quezon City and Manila will continue to expand their coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) immunization campaigns.

QC had already provided 4,304,040 doses, including first, second, and booster doses, as of New Year’s Eve.

Adults account for 2,046,000 of the total 2,075,379 fully vaccinated, while minors aged 12 to 17 account for 193,756.

The city’s initial target population was 1.7 million adults.

“We are on track with our vaccine efforts. “What we are now planning is how to intensify and hasten our booster campaign in order to provide our people with added protection for a possible Delta surge due to the holiday festivities as well as in preparation for the Omicron variant,” QC Mayor Joy Belmonte told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) in a text message on Friday.

In March, QC began its inoculation program on time to avoid overcrowding in sites and to assure compliance with health and safety procedures.

Belmonte stated that, now that the city has met its goal, sites for walk-ins will be assigned in 2022.

“However, kahit officially walang walk-ins (even if officially walk-ins are not allowed), we still accommodate walk-ins, but those with reservations are given priority,” she explained.

Meanwhile, the city of Manila mandates preregistration, but all sites are first-come, first-served, despite receiving criticism for incidences of overcrowding that ignored physical distance.

Even non-residents were accommodated by the city, and this will continue in 2022.

The city had already deployed 3,033,574 doses as of December 30, with 1,484,879 people fully vaccinated, exceeding its original 1.2 million goals.

There are 103,422 fully vaccinated minors aged 12 to 17, with 114,168 booster injections already delivered.

The country is preparing to vaccinate youngsters aged 5 to 11 with lower doses of the Pfizer vaccine.
