The government wants more Filipinos to have their Philippine Identification (PhilID) or national ID, therefore registration offices for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) are now allowing walk-ins.

According to a December 2021 post from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – 11, walk-in registrants must have a valid ID from among the acceptable documents and will manually fill out the information page.

Before moving on to the Step 2 biometrics process, the PSA-PhilSys personnel will ask the registrant to double-check the information encoded.

Makeup and accessories must be removed before taking images, and contact lenses are not permitted because they will obstruct the iris scan.

PSA-11 underlined that “PhilSys registration and delivery of the ID by the Philippine Postal Corporation are both free.”

In 2021, more than 50 million Filipinos completed the registration procedure.

President Rodrigo R. Duterte signed Republic Act 11055, or the Philippine Identification System Act, into law in August 2018, with the goal of creating a single national ID for all Filipinos and resident immigrants.

The national ID will serve as valid evidence of identity that will make public and private transactions, school enrollment, and bank account opening easier.

It also aims to improve efficiency, particularly when dealing with government organizations, by requiring people to provide only one form of identification during transactions.
