Solar lights are provided by Pangasinan to remote areas.
MANGATAREM, Pangasinan โ The Pangasinan provincial administration has handed out three solar lights to Barangay Lawak Langka in this town as part of the Liwawa (light) initiative, which aims to boost the province’s security and retain its insurgency-free status.
The Provincial Information Office (PIO) stated in a statement on Wednesday that the project encourages solar energy access in the farthest barangays, known as Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA).
“Project Liwawa is one of Governor Amado Espino III’s projects that intends to illuminate far-flung barangays in the province utilizing renewable energy through solar lights in order to mitigate the effects of climate change,” the statement stated.
Espino also serves as the head of the Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (PTF-ELCAC).
The project also values the help and commitment of indigenous peoples (IPs) who live in distant and isolated sections of the province, according to Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office head Rhodyn Luchinvar Oro.
“Thank you for including IPs in this program as many of the tribes reside in GIDA thus, many will benefit from this project of the provincial government,” stated Enrique delos Santos Jr., provincial director of the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP).
The province administration plans to install two to three solar lights in 16 far-flung barangays, mostly in Pangasinan’s eastern and western regions.
Aside from the solar lights, the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg) also gave the barangay 200 sweet tamarinds, Narra, cashew, and mahogany seedlings, as well as a knapsack sprayer.
A total of 50 inhabitants were also given rubbing alcohol and vitamins as part of the Provincial Employment and Services Office’s modified mobile skills training program, which taught them basic carpentry and electrical troubleshooting. (
