MANILA, Philippines — According to the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO)-Jordan, a total of 1,264 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) will be hired in Jordan, which has begun to revive its economy.

According to Labor Attaché Armin Evangel Pea, they have processed roughly 90% of the Filipino workers’ employment contracts so far, with the majority employed as household services workers (HSWs).

“Of the total, 725 are new hires, while 539 are balik-manggagawa (returning workers),” Pea said in a virtual forum, adding that service sector workers are also beginning to return to the Arab nation.

She went on to say that there is a plan to raise HSWs’ pay from USD400 (about PHP22,000) to USD600 (about PHP31,000).

“The Ministry of Labor must approve it, as well as the bilateral agreement.” “The PRAs (Philippine Recruitment Agencies) are on the same page as us in advocating for a salary raise across the board here in the Middle East,” Pea said.

The host country will no longer require reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction test results from fully vaccinated immigrants starting this month.

“Those who are not immunized may face deportation or monetary penalties,” Pea warned.
