The government is boosting its efforts to vaccinate 77 million Filipinos by the end of March.
MANILA, Philippines โ The government is boosting its efforts to enroll at least 77 million Filipinos in the main series by the end of March and 90 million Filipinos by June 30.
Dr. Ted Herbosa, a special medical adviser of the National Task Force (NTF) against Covid-19, stated Wednesday at the Laging Handa public briefing that the government has stepped up measures to address vaccination saturation in isolated areas in the regions and other provinces.
At the moment, the country has vaccinated 71.84 percent of its 77 million target population against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
According to the NTF’s most recent data, approximately 64,660,228 Filipinos have received complete vaccination against Covid-19, with just 15.56 percent, or 11,224,504 Filipinos, obtaining booster injections.
“Ang pagbabakuna natin tuluy-tuloy. I believe that nagkakaroon ng tinatawag na saturation ng gustong magpakuna sa malalayong lugar na tayo. We will continue to supply [vaccines] (We will continue to supply vaccines. I believe we are nearing “saturation” of those wanting to receive vaccinations in isolated regions. We have an ample supply of vaccines),” Herbosa stated.
The National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC), in collaboration with local government units and the private sector, is making every effort to reach isolated communities โ such as those in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), Soccksargen, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, and Zamboanga Peninsula โ that are still falling short of their 65 percent vaccination coverage target, he said.
Herbosa said the public should always be aware that even if the majority of the country has been classified as Alert Level 1, “the threat of Covid-19 remains and outbreaks of cases are still conceivable.”
“It is critical in the context of this document that ‘yung hindi nababakunahan ay kumbisihin natin na magpabakuna na sila. Yung mga senior citizens natin na high-risk ay bigyan natin ng bakuna para maaakyat ang casos (It is critical that individuals who are currently unvaccinated be induced to seek the Covid-19 vaccines. Senior citizens at high risk must be vaccinated to ensure their protection when cases spike),” he stressed.
Until March 31, a total of 47 places statewide were classified as Alert Level 1.
