Cebu trade show features 24 ‘womenpreneurs’ showcasing their wares.

CEBU CITY, PHILIPPINES โ€“ The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Cebu recently highlighted 24 women-led micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) at the ‘Womenpreneur’ (women entrepreneur) Trade Fair 2022.

The trade show features a diverse selection of products manufactured and distributed by these female entrepreneurs.

Zee Pono of GRND UP Consumer Goods Trading is one of them. The company sells homemade frozen products such as chorizo and longganisa.

Pono, whose business was impacted by the pandemic, is also a DTI-Go Negosyo Inspiring Filipina Entrepreneurs for 2022 honoree.

“This is an initiative to assist our province’s MSMEs in recovering from the pandemic and the devastation caused by Typhoon Odette,” DTI-Cebu provincial director Rose Mae Quianola said in a statement on Monday.

The trade show, which will be held at the Ayala Center Cebu from March 18 to 31, is being organized in collaboration with Ayala Malls and the Philippine Commission on Women in commemoration of National Women’s Month under the theme “We Make Change Work for Women.”

Currently on display at the fair are gifts, decors and housewares, handcrafted fashion accessories, and processed food, all of which are made and honed in the region.

Quinanola stated that one of the primary objectives of the DTI’s MSME Development (MSMED) plan is to increase access to the mainstream market through trade fairs.

The MSMED plan aims to develop globally competitive MSMEs that are regionally integrated, resilient, sustainable, and innovative, and thus serve as critical drivers of inclusive Philippine economic growth.

The trade fair’s featured ‘womenpreneurs’ are DTI-supported MSMEs through a variety of programs, including One Town, One Product (OTOP), Kapatid Mentor ME (KMME), and Shared Service Facilities (SSF).

“We hope our consumers recognize the value of this trade show in promoting women-owned small businesses and regional products,” Quianola said.
