
Bulacan poll bets take part in a unity walk and the signing of a peace accord.
MALOLOS CITY (BULACAN), Philippines β On Thursday, a total of 51 local candidates for various elected offices in this province took part in a unity walk and signed a peace covenant for Secure, Accurate, Free, and Fair Elections (S.A.F.E.).
The unity walk began at 7 a.m. at Camp Alejo Santos with an ecumenical prayer conducted by Fr. Efren Basco, followed by a covenant signing at the KB Gymnasium.
Candidates at the provincial level delivered the vow of fidelity administered by Fr. Basco at the same time.
Bulacan Police Provincial Office (PPO) acting provincial director Col. Rommel Ochave led the operation, which was coordinated with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) led by Bulacan provincial election supervisor Lawyer Rene Cruz Jr.
Officials and personnel from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the Philippine National Police’s Internal Affairs Service (IAS), the Department of Education (DepEd), the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the Philippine Army (PA), and religious groups, academe, and other non-government organizations were among those in attendance.
Cruz urged all candidates to do their part in ensuring that the May 9 elections are free and fair.
Governor Daniel Fernando and his running mate, vice gubernatorial candidate Alex Castro of the National Unity Party (NUP), are seeking reelection, as are incumbent Vice Governor Willy Alvarado and his running mate, former congressman Joselito Mendoza of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).
In the last nine years, the province of Bulacan has experienced a calm and honest election, according to Darwin David, DILG provincial director.
Ochave, for one, said the Bulacan police remain proactive and supportive of the S.A.F.E. mission.
