Mayors and Provincial Board (PB) members of Cebu who regularly attend Provincial Development Council (PDC) meetings will receive grants for mini-infrastructure projects totaling PHP 2 million for their citizens.

The financial grant will be distributed to 39 out of 50 mayors in 44 municipalities and six component cities, three vice mayors who attended the meeting on their mayors’ behalf, seven PB members, and the Sangguniang Kabataan president.

The financial incentive will be given to everyone who showed up and stayed for the PDC meeting on Thursday, according to Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, who announced on Friday.

The PHP2 million grant, according to Garcia, is in addition to the PHP1 million she had promised to the PB members who also stayed with her during a Wednesday inter-agency meeting.

The governor stated, “I typically award infrastructure grants to LGUs whose mayors demonstrated cooperation by remaining until all issues were resolved.”

She said that this award method would enable the legislature to provide funds for modest initiatives that directly impacted citizens’ lives and guarantee that major agenda items were appropriately addressed during meetings.

She claimed that when the PDC is properly represented, issues in the field that require widespread attention can be quickly resolved.

In the meantime, during a blessing and vehicle changeover ceremony at the Provincial Legislative Building on Thursday, Vice Governor Hilario Davide III and the 17 PB members each received a pickup truck as their service vehicle.

The governor re-emphasized to the provincial lawmakers to represent their districts’ constituents using the vehicle.
