DILG anticipates a seamless handover of power.
As the province’s May 9 election winners prepare for their inaugurations, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has advised exiting officials to collaborate for a seamless transition of power.
In an interview on Friday, DILG Antique provincial director Cherryl Tacda said the Municipal Local Government Operations Officers (MLGOO) of the province’s 18 towns are now aiding the transitions teams to ensure a thorough handover of paperwork, among other things, before the inaugurations.
“We’d been warning exiting officials for a long time that they needed to rid themselves of their responsibilities and accountabilities before leaving their offices,” she said.
Local winning candidates have filed their Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE) with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) as of Friday, according to Tacda, allowing them to take their elective seats.
Both elective candidates and outgoing officials who ran in the previous elections are required to file the SOCE.
However, Comelec has allowed only elective candidates to file their SOCEs after the June 8 deadline as long as they comply on or before June 30 in order to take office.
Meanwhile, Governor Rhodora Cadiao, who is serving her third and last term, indicated in an earlier interview that they will have simultaneous inaugurations with municipal-level candidates in the province’s southern towns on June 27 and a similar event in the province’s northern towns on June 28.
Senator-elect Loren Legarda, the outgoing congressman from Antique, will also attend the inauguration with local officials.
“We used to only have one inaugural at the capitol grounds,” Cadiao explained, “but this time we’re going to have two so that folks in the north can see it as well.”
