The current live weight price of pigs, which is PHP120 per kilogram, is being pushed for by members of the Sibalom Livestock and Poultry-raisers Association (SILPRA).

The price has not changed since the beginning of the lean months in August, according to Elma Pea, president of SILPRA.

“The price of the live weight hog remained at PHP140 per kilogram during the months of June to July, but it decreased to PHP120 starting last August,” she stated.

Hog farmers in Antique stated they anticipated an increase in the purchase price for their products because to the increased demand for hogs in Luzon at the start of the “ber” months, the opening of restaurants, and the start of schools.

She stated that the original lightweight fee of PHP140 per kilogram is reinstated or possibly raised further to increase their revenue. The SILPRA, which has 570 members from Sibalom as well as other nearby towns, made this suggestion.

We would have the chance to speak with the traders or their middlemen and determine an agreeable price if the provincial pricing coordinating committee were to convene, she said.

Governor Rhodora Cadiao is presiding over the province price coordinating council, which is made up of representatives from the departments of trade and industry, agriculture, civil society organizations, and stakeholders.

Pea further claimed that a certain shipper to Metro Manila at the Iloilo Port has monopolized the purchasing price of hogs and that intermediaries have been set up in Antique, specifically at the Sibalom Livestock, to give the live weight price of PHP120 per kilo.

According to her, hog farmers in Antique are forced to accept the low buying price being provided to them since they still need to transfer their lightweight hogs to the Iloilo Port in Iloilo City for Metro Manila.
