On Tuesday, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. said that places unaffected by recent disasters would not be excluded from receiving financial relief from the national government.

Although Eastern Visayas provinces have recovered from Super Typhoon Yolanda, Marcos noted during the ceremonial distribution of various aid at the Leyte Academic Center in Palo, Leyte, that several families are still experiencing the negative effects of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

“Even if I’m not able to carry a bag, my fellow citizens and I will still be naghihirap due to the pandemic-related economic situation. My contacts with the Cabinet secretaries are patuloy. Even if we were unharmed by typhoons, our countrymen are suffering because of the pandemic’s impact on the economy. Hindi kami aalis hanggang makita namin na kaya na ng mga tao na tumayo sa kanilang sariling mga paa. I gave the Cabinet secretaries instructions to keep providing assistance. When Marcos remarked, “We will stay until the people are back on their feet, key representatives from the regional and national governments were present.

Marcos oversaw the distribution of cash assistance to beneficiaries of the Department of Agriculture’s financial assistance program for rice farmers, a disinfection truck to the provincial government of Southern Leyte, cash assistance to recipients of the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s program to assist people in crisis situations, and assistance to individuals under the Department of Labor and Employment’s emergency employment program.

Additionally, he oversaw the distribution of laptops from the Department of Information and Communications Technology to participants in the Department of Education’s Tech4ED Program as well as the delivery of an ambulance to local government entities as part of the Department of Health’s Health Facilities Enhancement Program.

Local government entities, farmer organizations, and people from various areas of the Eastern Visayas region are the recipients of these aids.

In Tacloban City’s Holy Cross Memorial Gardens, where more than 2,000 Super Typhoon Yolanda victims were laid to rest, Marcos oversaw the 9th-anniversary commemoration of the 2013 disaster before the ceremonial distribution.
