The Moderna bivalent vaccination against the 2019 coronavirus disease (Covid-19) will be the subject of initial deliberations by the Health Technology Assessment Council (HTAC) on Friday (Nov. 18).

In a press conference on Tuesday, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire stated, “We’re just waiting so that Moderna can submit their application for their EUA (emergency use authorization) to the FDA (Food and Drug Administration).”

A favorable recommendation from the HTAC and EUA from the FDA is required before a Covid-19 vaccine can be made available to the public in order to ensure its efficacy and safety.

“We have continuous coordination with them already, we have already decided where to use our funds and how many of these bivalent vaccines to purchase from Moderna,” Vergeire said. “Kami po ay may continuous coordination with them already, we have already decided where to paggagamitan natin ng pondo at kung ilan ‘yung bibilhin natin.”

She continued, “Moderna has pledged to provide their shots as early as November or December.”

In a nationally eased face mask mandate, infectious disease specialist Dr. Edsel Salvaa stressed the significance of the availability of bivalent immunizations in a televised public briefing.

He claimed that this particular vaccination, in addition to the more traditional shots, targets more recent, dangerous strains.

As of Nov. 14, about 73.7 million Filipinos, including more than 6.9 million seniors, 10 million teenagers, and 5.3 million kids, have received all of their recommended vaccinations.

Nearly 3.5 million people have received their second booster shot, while over 20.8 million people have received their first booster dosage.
