PNP records a decrease in offenses of 2.66% from January to November.

Between January and November 13 of this year, fewer crimes were reported throughout the nation than during the same period last year.

Col. Jean Fajardo, a spokesman for the Philippine National Police (PNP), stated that the police force has so far recorded 34,050 index crimes, or crimes against persons, such as murder, homicide, bodily harm, and rape; and crimes against property, such as robbery, theft, and the theft of cars and motorcycles.

“From January through November 13 of the previous year, the same period, we recorded 34,982 (index crimes). Thus, there has been a reduction of 932 (cases) for this year, or a 2.66 percent decline, Fajardo told reporters in an interview on Tuesday in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

She attributed the decline to increased police activities and presence, particularly in places where people frequently congregate, and she also thanked the public for their cooperation.

“They already understand the need for personal safety. This is a significant reason why there have been fewer (criminal) incidences this year, according to Fajardo.

She said that they want to maintain these gains during the holiday season when crime incidences rise along with increased economic activity and travel.

The PNP’s position is to maintain police visibility, especially in areas where crimes are likely to occur. “The only way we can sustain this good crime trend of ours is with the help of communities by taking care of their personal safety and security,” the PNP stated. However, the PNP’s position is to maintain police visibility, especially in places where crimes are likely to occur),” Fajardo stated.

She claimed that PNP chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. intends to continue maintaining a greater police presence in areas of confluence.

In order to ensure that we maintain this trend of declining crime at least through the end of the year, she continued, “Our policemen will be out on the streets, including our personnel rendering administrative duty who will be forced to also do patrol tasks.”
