In line with the “Chikiting Ligtas” campaign, the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) began its month-long measles-rubella (MR) and oral polio vaccine (OPV) supplemental immunization activity (MR OPV SIA) on Tuesday in Antique, a municipality in the province of Bugasong, with a target population of over 120,000 kids aged 0 to 59 months.

According to IPHO information officer Irene Duldoco, “Parents were well aware of the benefit that their children could get from the immunization, which is why they brought their children.”

The immunization specifically aims to reach 58,472 kids between the ages of 9 and 59 months for MR and 68,339 kids between the ages of 0 and 59 months for OPV.

She claimed that prior to the introduction, information-dissemination activities were carried out to educate parents on the protection that vaccinations can provide for their children.

The immunization drive began in other local government units (LGUs) in the province at the same time as the provincial launching in Bugasong.

During the flag-raising ceremony at the provincial capital on Tuesday, IPHO chief Dr. Ric Noel Naciongayo urged employees, especially those with children 0 to 59 months old, to bring them to health centers for immunization.

Naciongayo remarked, “I ask for everyone’s support to the national drive to strengthen our kids’ immunity.

In a separate interview, IPHO Health Officer Dr. Leoncio Abiera Jr. stated that specific locations, such as barangay health stations and rural health facilities, will serve as the “Chikiting Ligtas” locations.

He stated, “Immunizations will be administered in the schools to reach out to school children.

Barangay leaders in the 18 towns of Antique, according to Liga ng mga Barangay (LnB) president Pamela Socorro-Azucena, have vowed to support the initiative.

On April 29, Azucena participated in the stakeholders’ commitment signing for the LnB at a hotel in San Jose de Buenavista.

“I have already made public information dissemination for Barangay Idio in Sebaste, and we are getting ready for the May 15 schedule at the Day Care Center,” she stated.

Prior to conducting a house-to-house outreach effort to reach the targeted children, the local health officers establish the schedule of vaccines in the barangays and schools.
