π PH positivity rate dips to 5.6% as of July 15 π¦
The Philippines’ positivity rate, which measures the percentage of people testing positive for Covid-19, has shown a promising decline, reaching 5.6 percent as of July 15. According to OCTA Research Group fellow Dr. Guido David, this figure represents a notable 0.8-percent drop from the previous week’s rate of 6.4 percent.
Based on the Department of Health (DOH) report, there were 283 new cases, two deaths, and 431 recoveries. Among the new cases, 56 were recorded in the National Capital Region, with projections of 200 to 300 new cases expected for the next day, July 16.
To date, the country’s total number of Covid-19 infections stands at 4,169,644, with 5,879 active cases. The overall Covid-19 death toll in the Philippines is at 66,510.
The latest bio-surveillance report from the DOH showed that 850 samples were sequenced from June 30 to July 7 by the Philippine Genome Center. It was found that 92 percent of the cases were XBB types.
“The XBB 2.3 or Acrux is the most dominant nationwide, comprising 30 percent of cases, followed by XBB 1.16 or Arcturus at 24 percent,” revealed Dr. Guido David.
Following these, XBB 1.9.1 or Hyperion accounted for 16 percent or 135 cases; XBB 1.5 at 8 percent or 65 cases; XBB 1.9.2 at 4 percent or 35 cases; and BA 2.3.20 at 2 percent or 20 cases.
The remaining 11 percent, or 90 cases, were identified as other XBB types.
This decline in the positivity rate and the continuous monitoring of Covid-19 variants are positive signs in the country’s ongoing battle against the pandemic. Let’s continue to practice safety protocols and remain vigilant in the fight against Covid-19. π΅ππͺπ¦
