The Davao Food Terminal Complex (DFTC) will receive assistance from the Department of Science and Technology’s Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST-ITDI) in decreasing food deterioration.

“DFTC is merely a trade and storage post for farmers. We’ll assist them in implementing technologies like active packaging, modified atmosphere packaging, post-harvest systems, and transportation packaging “On Monday, director Anabelle Briones told the Philippine News Agency.

She claims that these technologies will increase the value of numerous commodities and prevent spoilage, such as mango, pomelo, durian, mangosteen, broccoli, and lettuce.

The ITDI recently signed an agreement with DOST-Region 11 (Davao) and the DFTC for this project on strengthening the competence of current distribution centers or trading posts in the transportation of fresh and semi-processed agricultural products, according to DOST Secretary Fortunato de la Pea.

This initiative focuses on packaging and logistics, with the goal of reducing product damage and spoiling by at least 20% of reported losses.

“The initiative is being executed by the ITDI in conjunction with various stakeholders in the regions under the DOST’s Smart Food Value Chain in the New Normal program,” he said.
