Libiran, a DOTr executive, resigns for “personal” reasons.
MANILA, Philippines โ Assistant Secretary and spokesman for the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Goddes Hope Libiran, has resigned from her position, citing personal hardships during the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) epidemic.
Libiran announced her resignation as the agency’s Assistant Secretary for Communications and Commuter Affairs on February 4, which will take effect at the end of the month, in a Facebook post on Tuesday.
“On a personal level, the last three months have been pretty frightening and challenging for me,” Libiran added, “, particularly with horrible incidents and deaths of very close loved ones and family.”
Her entire family was infected with Covid-19 and her home was plundered in a month, she claimed.
“These things happened all in a month’s time,” Libiran said. “Even for someone as robust and resolute as I would like to be, it was just way too much.”
She stated that she has no plans to participate in any political elections and will instead devote her time to her family.
“I’ve been three people for a long timeโa mother, a wife, and a public servant.” I’ve decided to limit myself to just being one. After all, family is what counts most at the end of the day. “They are the most important to me,” Libiran remarked.
She praised Department of Transit Secretary Arthur Tugade, who “relentlessly pushed every imaginable project, program, or initiative that would elevate, enhance, and change our public transportation system.”
“Working with a visionary and a man with a grand plan entails a lot of personal and professional sacrifices. “It’s like laboring for miracles,” Libiran explained, “because he wants to make things happen no matter what it takes.”
She also expressed gratitude to other DOTr officials as well as President Rodrigo Roa Duterte for allowing the DOTr and Tugade to “flourish and extend all leeway” in their pursuit of a better life for Filipinos.
“It is this basic but extremely difficult task that drove us at the DOTr to accomplish the seemingly impossible and achieve the seemingly impossible, allowing our country to fully experience its golden age of infrastructure,” Libiran added.
Libiran joined the DOTr as a communications officer in late 2016.
In March 2017, she was named the agency’s head of communications, and in January 2019, she was promoted to Assistant Secretary.
