MANILA, Philippines – According to Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity, the opening of the tourism industry in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) via an inter-regional airline route is a major achievement in the region’s peace and order situation (OPAPRU).

The launch of the Philippine Airlines (PAL) Cotabato City to Tawi-Tawi route, according to Galvez, is the result of “hard effort and collaboration” between the private sector, local government units, and the national government to ensure long-term peace and expand economic prospects in the region.

“PAL’s Cotabato-Tawi-Tawi flight is one of the peace dividends, and a witness to the Bangsamoro region’s economy’s continued growth,” he said in a statement on Saturday.

Apart from other economic measures, Galvez stated that the tourism industry contributed to the BARMM’s GDP growing by 7.5 percent in 2021.

“Considering that the country was still dealing with the repercussions of the pandemic,” he remarked, “it’s quite astonishing.” “We are confident in declaring that the region is now gearing up for the big time, as it opens its doors wide open for local and foreign investors interested in doing business in the area.”

At 8:51 a.m. on Thursday, the maiden Cotabato – Tawi-Tawi aircraft (PR 2487) took off from Awang Airport in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao and landed at Sanga-Sanga Airport in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi.

Each PAL Airbus A320 can transport up to 180 passengers on one trip and will fly Monday and Thursday at 7:30 a.m. from Cotabato to Tawi-Tawi and 9:40 a.m. from Tawi-Tawi to Cotabato.

Tawi-Tawi province, for example, has exquisite white-sand beaches and forest reserves.

Tourists would not face any problems, according to OPAPRU.
