According to a health expert, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is looking into a brand of Filipino instant noodles that is believed to contain a “high level of ethylene oxide.”

This comes after the governments of Malta, France, and Ireland warned people not to eat the noodle brand because it contains ethylene oxide, a pesticide that is not allowed to be used in foods marketed in the nations of the European Union.

The Food and Drug Administration is looking into this, this type of food is being put on hold, since apparently, apparent for now because this is under investigation, and we need to verify this based on FDA procedures.

Vergeire said that the FDA records the particular batches and lot numbers of the contaminated food items during its inquiry. When asked if the noodle brand will be taken off the market, Vergeire stated no.

She warned that consuming large amounts of ethylene oxide could result in nausea, vomiting, and loose stools.

She said, “There might also be at the far side, or extreme [situation], there will be trouble in breathing, feeling extremely exhausted, at iba pa (There could also be at the far side, or extreme [situation], there will be difficulty in breathing, feeling very weary, at iba pa).”

The DOH gave the public the reassurance that procedures and surveillance are in place to find and track products that could be harmful to consumers.
