After the price increases, DTI claims that there is enough salt in PH.

On Thursday, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) reaffirmed that the nation has an adequate supply of salt.

After the DTI approved a price hike for salt, assurance was given.

During the Laging Handa show, Trade Undersecretary Ruth Castelo said, “On the topic of supply, we have ample supply,” emphasizing that the nation wouldn’t experience a shortage because it has four sizable salt mills and plenty of imported salt.

Castelo clarified that the reason salt prices have increased recently is that they have remained constant for nearly six years.

“Its manufacturers are quite strong and don’t have any problems with the price. At least four, five, or six years must pass before they can make a request. As a result, according to our calculations, our price is still the same (These producers have not changed the price of salt. Before they requested the price increase, it took around four, five, or six years. Consequently, our calculations show that raising the price is required); “She spoke.

A number of salt brands have seen an increase in price as a result of the DTI’s suggested retail price (SRP) bulletin, which was published on August 12.

Iodized rock salt has a suggested retail price (SRP) of PHP21.75 for 500 grams and PHP23 for 1 kg.

Additionally, the DTI approved the following SRPs for iodized salt: PHP4.50 for a pack of 100 grams; PHP9 to PHP12.75 for a pack of 250; PHP16 to PHP23.25 for a pack of 500; and PHP29 for a pack of 1 kilogram.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) previously disclosed its goal to increase domestic salt production in order to reduce the nation’s reliance on imports.

This came about after the DA pointed out that the Philippines imports nearly 550,000 metric tons of salt annually, or roughly 93% of the nation’s salt needs.
