US President Joe Biden criticized Twitter’s acquisition by billionaire Elon Musk, claiming that the social media site “spews misinformation all around the world.”

“Now, what cause for concern do we share? Elon Musk goes out and purchases a company that disseminates misinformation around the globe,’ Biden remarked on Friday at a fundraiser in Chicago.

“America no longer has any editors. How do we expect children to comprehend the issues involved? the US president said.

After Musk revealed that Twitter would begin making cuts on Friday, Biden made his remarks.

Since acquiring Twitter for USD44 billion last week, Musk has moved quickly, first sacking CEO Parag Agrawal and then dissolving the board of directors, leaving him acting as the platform’s only director for the time being.

The layoff announcements are not unexpected because Musk said he planned to fire up to half of the company’s 7,500 employees after the acquisition.

Musk claimed on Friday that Twitter’s revenue has significantly decreased and blamed “activist groups” for pressuring advertisers.

Even if nothing has changed with regard to content regulation, activist groups’ pressure on advertisers is to blame for Twitter’s sharp decline in revenue, Musk claimed on his personal account.

The tweet was sent out a few days after more than 40 human rights and activist organizations sent a letter to Twitter’s leading advertisers urging them to stop all advertising if Musk violates brand safety and community standards.

The argument about the balance between free speech and online harm has erupted in the wake of Musk’s takeover of Twitter. Previously, Musk had criticized Twitter’s moderation practices and claimed that the site was biased in favor of left-wing viewpoints.
