The number of international tourists to the Philippines as of Nov. 8 was 1,961,087, the largest number since the pandemic’s start.

The United States, South Korea, Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Japan are this year’s top markets, accounting for half of all arrivals, according to the most recent data from the Department of Tourism.

From February to November 8, more than 370,000 people traveled to Japan, including 73,054 from Japan, 39,982 from India, 38,270 from Singapore, 33,696 from Malaysia, 32,139 from Vietnam, and 28,536 from Germany. Other countries with significant numbers of travelers included Australia, Canada, South Korea, the UK, Australia, and South Korea.

In the meantime, China, which was the nation’s second-largest source market for tourists before the outbreak, dropped to 12th place.

The easing of the entry bar on foreigners who are not immunized as long as they can show a negative antigen test result is one of several rules that the Philippines under the new administration have relaxed to accommodate the rise in arrivals.

Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco reaffirmed the Philippines’ readiness to welcome more leisure travelers at a recent appearance in London.

The nation is counting on domestic tourism as well as foreign tourists to hasten the industry’s comeback.

“This new administration in the Philippines will employ a strategy to maximize domestic tourism to be able to equalize tourism promotion development throughout and across our 16 regions and 81 provinces all over the Philippines and to give attention, promotion, as well as development, not only to our key destinations but as well as our lesser-known destinations,” Frasco said.

After all, the Philippines has 7,641 lovely islands that are all deserving of a visit from local or foreign tourists, she continued.
