New warnings for foreigners about immigration service fraud
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) issued a fresh warning to foreign nationals in the nation on Friday regarding con artists who advertise immigration services.
After two separate interceptions recently at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Paranaque City and its main office in Manila, Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco renewed the warning against people who offer to change BI-related documents.
“We caution foreign nationals not to take advantage of illicit offers. We currently have about 60 locations across the country, and we’re growing to provide services closer to the public. Really, there is no justification for breaking immigration laws, he declared in a statement.
On October 25 of last year, BI employees at the NAIA Terminal detained an American who was using a phony exit clearance.
The document was found to have several errors upon investigation, according to immigration inspectors, including Tansingco’s name being spelled incorrectly.
It was discovered after checking their centralized database that the agency had never provided such a clearance.
The foreigner was turned over to the BI’s Legal Division for proper handling after being refused boarding.
Foreign people who stay in the nation longer than six months on a temporary visitor’s visa are obliged to obtain an exit clearance.
On the other hand, the BI chief rejected 36 Indonesians’ requests for Provisional Work Permits (PWP) because they included fraudulent Alien Employment Permits (AEP) in their application.
Two Makati-based enterprises that provide customer assistance and internet marketing services submitted an application that was turned down on October 28.
The BI’s Legal Division has been given their cases so they can take legal action against the petitions and applicants.
The issue of PWPs requires the presence of AEPs.
