Seniors-only party list On Monday, Rep. Rodolfo Ordanes expressed his joy over the leaders of the Congress’ pledge to pay for the planned PHP1,000 monthly pension for elderly people in need.

“In a statement, Speaker Martin Romualdez, Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri, and the chairs of the bicameral conference committee, Senator Sonny Angara and Rep. Elizaldy Co of the Ako Bicol party list, were thanked by Ordanes for their leadership in pushing for the funding of the proposed P1,000 pension for the most vulnerable senior citizens.

“We look forward to demonstrating the financing provided for the impoverished seniors’ social pension to senior residents across the country when the bicam-approved budget is ratified here in the House and when the budget measure is signed in December, “Ordanes threw in.

According to him, the funding clause will be Congress’ final-quarter holiday gift to elderly people in need.

Ordanes stated that he will shortly propose a measure with the Department of Social Welfare and Development that would instruct the Social Security System (SSS) to disburse the pension in place of the current system (DSWD).

In this manner, he explained, “DSWD can concentrate on its core social welfare tasks and initiatives.”

Romualdez previously indicated his confidence in the Senate’s ability to support the House’s institutional adjustments to the proposed PHP5.268 trillion General Appropriations Bill for 2023, which total PHP77 billion.

The upgrading of pensions for retirees is one of the institutional changes.

Angara promised that Republic Act 11916, which expired on July 30 and had provided a 100% increase from PHP500 to PHP1,000 for the Social Pension for Indigent Senior Citizens, would be paid the following year.
