A deal on joint disaster response is signed by AFP and a civic organization.

On November 30, the Lions Club International Jurisdiction of Multi-District (MD) 301 Philippines and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the conduct of disaster response training.

Lt. Commander Eduard Pablico, the public affairs chief for the Philippine Navy’s Civil-Military Operations Group (PN-CMOG), said in a statement late on Thursday that the PN-CMOG helped to organize the signing ceremonies at the Marine Barracks Rudiardo Brown in Taguig City’s Bonifacio Naval Station Grandstand.

Lt. Gen. Bartolome Vicente Bacarro, chief of staff of the AFP, was represented and his message was given by Brig. Gen. Fermin M. Carangan, assistant deputy chief of staff for CMO.

The MD 301, on the other side, was represented by Frederick Lim, the chair of the Council of Governors.

The MD 301 district governor and retired Commodore Amado Sanglay stated that the MOU’s objectives and provisions would be concentrated on the conduct of disaster response training for first responders to be conducted in the jurisdiction areas of District 301 Philippines, where there are Lion Districts in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao where there are camps and bases who will help to conduct and undertake disaster response training.

In his remarks, Bacarro claimed that the MOU will support the AFP’s efforts to work with stakeholders to promote socioeconomic activity.

Together, “we will achieve a real synergy of action for greater impact on the socio-civic activities that will benefit the lives of many Filipinos, particularly in depressed areas devastated by armed conflict,” he added.

The AFP commander claimed that the successful pursuit of this collaboration was made possible by the efforts and deeds of service performed by the military and Lions Club International during crises and disasters.

My profound gratitude to the Lions Club International for this wonderful relationship, which promotes our shared goal of nation-building, on behalf of the men and women of the AFP, Bacarro stated.
