DSWD-11 distributes social pension distribution to 284K elderly
The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Davao Region (DSWD-11), through the Social Pension for Indigent Senior Citizens (SocPen) program, concluded its fourth-quarter payout to around 284,700 participants in the area.
Maria Victoria Arancon, DSWD-11 SocPen unit director, said Wednesday a total of PHP427 million was disbursed by the agency for the program.
There were 22,028 beneficiaries in Davao Occidental, receiving PHP33 million in help, 46,199 recipients in Davao Oriental, receiving PHP69.29 million in support, and 52,669 beneficiaries in Davao de Oro (PHP79 million).
Davao City had 65,602 beneficiaries, Davao del Norte had 56,554 beneficiaries, and Davao del Sur had 41,648 beneficiaries, totaling PHP62.47 million (PHP98.4 million).
“We are really appreciative for the help and cooperation from the local government units who augmented us during the payout, as well as the officials from the Office for Senior Citizens Affairs of their various barangays,” Arancon said.
The Social Pension program is in line with the fulfillment of the commitment of the government to the most disadvantaged sector through social protection and for the full implementation of RA 9994 or the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010.
It gives a monthly stipend equating to PHP500 to enhance the daily subsistence and other medical requirements of poor older citizens.
