The Bureau of Immigration is prepared for an increase in holiday travelers
Personnel from the Bureau of Immigration (BI) are prepared for the increase in travelers over the holiday period, an official said on Thursday.
Commissioner Norman Tansingco has given the Port Operations Division instructions to make sure there is enough staff on hand to assist arriving and departing passengers.
“We recently visited an immigration symposium in Japan, where we had the opportunity to talk with various immigration offices from across the world about the clearly increasing number of travelers. In a statement, he noted that much experienced long immigration waits in their home nations.
Long queues are unavoidable, the BI head continued, but they are making sure that passengers are handled quickly.
All counters are staffed, and travelers are handled within the required 45 seconds, according to him.
According to Tansingco, “The e-gates are also in use, and they allow decreasing processing time to as low as 8 seconds for Filipinos.”
However, according to Carlos Capulong, head of the Port Operations Division, there are about 35,000 arrivals and 29,000 departures processed daily at all international airports.
He claimed that the rise of travelers is evidence of an uptick in tourism around the world.
The BI previously stated that frontline workers are not permitted to take time off over the holidays.
