In light of the severe winter storm in the US, the Filipino community is advised

A strong snowfall is moving through the central and eastern regions, and the Filipino population in the United States is recommended to monitor the situation and make any necessary preparations.
As the storm moves in and brings dangerously low wind chills, at least 13 weather-related fatalities have been reported in Oklahoma, Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee, Wisconsin, and Ohio.
The Philippine Embassy in Washington, DC, issued a warning on Saturday, advising Filipino communities to monitor the weather, make the necessary preparations, and pay attention to local officials’ warnings regarding the impending severe winter storm.
During a “once in a generation” storm that will bring snow, wind, ice, and extremely low temperatures during the holiday weekend, the National Weather Service issued a warning that the wind chill will affect nearly half of the US population.
The public is cautioned not to venture outside unless absolutely necessary since blizzard conditions could cause visibility to drop to zero.
Distressed members of the Filipino community are asked to call (202) 368-2767 or (202) 769-8049 for crises needing Embassy assistance.
