Floods welcomed Christmas Day on Sunday in certain areas of Surigao del Norte and Agusan del Norte after heavy rains fell on Saturday night.

Additionally, the Philippine Coast Guard stations in Surigao del Norte and Siargao Island had to briefly halt maritime navigation due to strong winds.

Families were saved in the communities of Mahanub, Villaflor, Ipil, Cambo-ayon, and Poniente with the assistance of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office while the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) sent people to Gigaquit, Surigao del Norte (MDRRMO).

The number of families affected by the floods in these barangays is still being determined, according to a statement from BFP-Gigaquit.

Around two in the morning on Sunday, the Surigao City DRRMO carried out an emergency evacuation operation in the inundated Sitio Dolong and Sitio Baybay Magallanes neighborhoods of Barangay Washington and relocated a senior person, two women, and two children to a temporary shelter.

A mother, a teenager, and two pets were also saved by the CDRRMO in Purok Sampaguita, Barangay Taft.

BFP-Jabonga stated that it is still counting the number of impacted families in Agusan del Norte as of press time.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s 11 a.m. bulletin, the eastern Visayas, Surigao del Norte, and Dinagat islands will experience moderate to heavy rains with at times intense rains, while the southern Palawan, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and the rest of Caraga and the Visayas can expect the same.

In places that are extremely or very highly susceptible to these dangers and in areas that receive a substantial amount of rainfall, flooding and rain-induced landslides are likely to occur.

As of 2:00 p.m., the following flights have been grounded because of bad weather at the destination:
