A temporary service is in operation between the North Avenue and Shaw Boulevard stations of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) due to the closure of at least six stations.

The MRT-3 stated in a statement on Tuesday that Taft and Magallanes interstation had received reports of a rolling stock issue (northbound).

“Eight train sets are currently operating on the mainline. Our technical staff is still intervening. We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused,” it said.

The offline stations, which include Boni, Guadalupe, Buendia, Ayala, Magallanes, and Taft Avenue, are located south of Shaw Boulevard station.

All MRT-3 stations resumed regular operations at 4:30 p.m. There are 17 train sets that travel between Taft Avenue and North Avenue stations.

Prior to this, MRT-3 General Manager Federico Canar Jr. carried out a surprise inspection of the MRT-3 mainline between the stations on North Avenue and Shaw Boulevard to assess the system’s operational status and the implementation of its health and safety policies.

Canar examined the escalators, elevators, comfort rooms, ticket booths, and commuter welfare desks in stations.

The MRT-3 carried 98,591 passengers in total during the morning peak hours of 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., a significant increase from the 28,670 passengers carried during the same time period on January 2, 2023.
