Activities by Dinagyang to speed up Iloilo’s economic recovery

Due to the restoration of performances and smaller events following a two-year pandemic ban, the Dinagyang Festival is anticipated to stimulate a number of economic activities in the province and the city of Iloilo, according to the City Tourism and Development Office (CTDO).

“The festival has a significant impact on economic recovery since it benefits numerous areas, including transportation, rather than just one. Small vendors, the pasalubong business, and those involved in the production of locally created goods will benefit from it, according to CTDO director Junel Ann Divinagracia in an interview.

She stated that with just over a week until the staging of the big events on Jan. 20 to 22, preparations are practically identical to the time before the pandemic.

“We can almost argue that it is back to pre-pandemic with the way things are going, with the bookings,” she said.

Hotels in the City Proper zone, where the majority of the activities will take place, are, according to Divinagracia, 99 percent booked, while two major hotels in the Mandurriao neighborhood are already at capacity.

The City Proper region has between 30 and 40 hotels.

With the holding of the opening salvo, when participating tribes in the Dagyang sa Barangay competition gave the audience a preview of their performance for January 22, the sounds of drums echoed around the city on Friday.

Over 30,000 people, according to the estimation of the incident management team of the Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, were present at various performance venues and along the parade route.

Four novena masses, a stroll with Senior Santo Nio de Cebu at four in the morning on Friday, and the installation of the Hermano and Hermana Mayor 2023 were among the religious ceremonies that got underway.

In order to aid in the economic recovery, Divinagracia asked the people to attend and support the event, but she also emphasized the importance of always following the bare minimum of safety precautions.
