LEGAZPI CITY, PHILIPPINES – On Wednesday, the local government unit (LGU) of Camalig, Albay approved the return of students to a public elementary in Barangay Panoypoy for face-to-face (F2F) sessions.

This follows the LGU’s area assessment of Panoypoy Elementary School in preparation for its reopening.

The exercise was carried out, according to Mayor Caloy Irwin Balbo, to verify the institution’s readiness for the pilot of on-site learning.

“Following the assessment conducted by members of the Municipal and Barangay Composite Teams, Panoypoy Elementary School is now fit to accommodate school staff and students provided that the school continues to practice proper sanitation, solid waste management, and adhere to the Department of Health’s (DOH) minimum health standards on a regular basis,” the post read.

Personnel from the Municipal Health Office (MHO), Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), Municipal Engineering Office (MEO), Philippine National Police (PNP), and other local officials visited the school to conduct interventions aimed at improving the health and safety of students as well as maintaining peace and order in the neighborhood.

According to Baldo, the school will also help with regular cleanliness operations and incorporate health declaration sheets in collaboration with the Municipal Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit in order to maximize contact tracing at the school and grassroots level.

According to the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases’ most recent advisory, Camalig town remains on Alert Level 2.
