The advantages of DSWD’s cash-for-work program 207K PWDs in the country

In 150 various municipalities around the nation, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has already given monetary assistance totaling more than PHP830 million to 207,152 people with disabilities (PWDS).

The amount, according to the DSWD, is only current as of January 19; aggregation of the beneficiaries’ final reports from the Field Offices is still proceeding.

As part of the agency’s compliance with the Marcos administration’s objective to bring government programs closer to the people, the payout operations for the DSWD’s cash-for-work (CFW) designed for PWDs in the nation were carried out simultaneously in December 2022.

Among the community projects and services carried out by the PWDs are coastline cleanup, cleaning of public spaces, planting of trees, and communal gardening.

The project, known as “BUHAYnihan or Buhay at Bayanihan para sa Mamamayan Cash-for-Work for Persons with Disabilities,” was led by the DSWD Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS), in accordance with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to assist the vulnerable sectors and bring the programs directly to the Filipino people.

This also reflects the growing importance placed on offering PWDs programs and services and recognizing their human rights.

The DSWD promised to keep implementing social protection plans for every Filipino, including people with disabilities, as the leading organization in defending the rights of marginalized and vulnerable groups.

In the meantime, the DSWD is cautioning the public against providing monetary or in-kind support to con artists who are utilizing forged solicitation permits ostensibly to help the underprivileged sector.

The Department for the Blinds Welfare of the Philippines, Inc. was warned after receiving information that it was conducting public solicitation while purportedly using a certificate of fundraising granted by the DSWD.

The claimed certificate was signed by Marites M. Maristela, who is currently an assistant secretary and was previously the director of the DSWD Field Office III.

According to Maristela, it is illegal and prohibited to use a forged certificate of fund-raising carrying her name. She vehemently disputed the validity of the certificate.

She expressed regret that some good-hearted people and families had fallen victim to the scam.

Maristela pleaded with the public to report any encounters with anyone carrying the phony certificate to the local DSWD office or police station in order to assist the DSWD in stopping the organization from continuing to victimize victims.

Before providing any kind of aid, the public is also advised by the DSWD to confirm with the organization the legitimacy of any solicitation effort.

The goal of this precaution is to prevent dishonest people or organizations from taking advantage of public solicitation and to make sure that it actually helps those in need rather than dampening the generosity of the Filipino people.
