Project Kaliwa Dam will begin operation by December 2026.
According to the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System, the New Centennial Water Source – Kaliwa Dam Project (NCWS-KDP) is anticipated to begin operations and produce 600 million liters of water per day (MLD) by December 2026. (MWSS).
On Wednesday, MWSS administrator Leonor Cleofas announced that a 22 km tunnel digging project had started between Teresa town and Morong town in Rizal province.
42 families, according to Cleofas, whose lives will be impacted by the construction of the tunnel for the KDP, are currently being looked after by concerned government organizations.
She continued by saying that local law and order issues, such as when communist militants bully and abuse local indigenous residents, have contributed to the project’s construction is delayed.
Cleofas claimed that the Philippine National Police Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) and the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) have tackled this issue.
“Many studies have demonstrated that the Kaliwa Dam is a realistic solution for addressing water scarcity concerns in the medium to long term,” stated Justice Elpidio Vega, chairman of the MWSS Board of Trustees.
He remembered that in 2019, there were water shortages in Metro Manila.
Vega said that an additional 80 MLD of water are currently available for supply to Manila Water customers with the completion of Phase 1 of the New Wawa Bulk Water Supply Project in Barangay Calawis in Antipolo City, Rizal.
