Another town in Nueva Ecija will soon have its own cold storage facility for onions.

At Cuyapo, Nueva Ecija, a new cold storage facility that will help onion farmers will soon be built.

Governor Aurelio Umali presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the facility at Barangay Calancuasan Sur on Monday, along with Cuyapo Mayor Florida Paguio-Esteban, municipal agriculturist Orlando Ramos, and other local officials.

The project is under the Department of Agriculture (DA) Regional Field Office III’s High-Value Crop Development Program.

Members of the Calancuasan Sur Farmers Association, who provided the lot for the facility’s development, will benefit from it.

According to Crispulo G. Bautista Jr., executive director of the DA Central Luzon region, the facility is a much-needed boost for farmers who are unable to preserve their produce because there aren’t enough cold storage facilities available.

The construction of onion cold storage facilities, which are anticipated to have a significant impact on the lives of the onion farmers, would continue, Bautista pledged.

“Kailangan ng ating mga magsasaka ang cold storage upang ang sobra nilang ani mula sa produksyon ay mas mapatagal,” the statement reads. It is the necessity of our farmers for cold storage so that their surplus harvest can be kept for extended periods of time. It is the aming binibigyan of pansin in the present. We’re paying close attention to this issue. As a result, we have a budget set aside each year for this kind of facility),” he added in a statement.

Farmers frequently have to sell their produce for less than they would want to since there aren’t enough storage facilities.

Farmers will soon be able to safely keep their food and get a decent price for it thanks to the development of the cold storage facility.

20,000 bags of onions can be stored in the upcoming cold storage facility for onions.

On March 9, the DA gave Kalasag Primary Multi-Purpose Cooperative (KPMPC) in Barangay San Agustin, San Jose City, and Caridad Sur Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (CASFA MPC), both in Nueva Ecija, access to cold storage facilities for onions.

10,000 bags of onions can be stored in each location.
