In North Cotabato, a Mindanao hawk eagle was saved and set free.

An official announced on Thursday that a young Pinker’s hawk-eagle that had been saved by a farmer earlier this week in Magpet, North Cotabato, had been released back into the wild.

When the raptor was discovered on Monday at a farm in Barangay Amabel, Magpet town, Forester Rosie Camiguing, chief of the local Department of Environment and Natural Resources Protected and Wildlife Unit (PAWU), said it had lost its ability to fly.

According to a statement from Camiguing, the unnamed farmer fed and cared for the raptor for roughly a day, which allowed it to recoup its energy.

The following day, according to Camiguing, the farmer brought the raptor to the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office of Magpet.

The Pinsker’s hawk-eagle commonly referred to as the Philippine hawk-eagle or the Mindanao hawk-eagle, is a type of predatory bird in the Accipitridae family.

The juvenile raptor was examined by Magpet Municipal Veterinarian Dr. Mylene P. Reniedo, who reported that the animal is in good health and is prepared to be returned to its native environment.

Its length is 63 centimeters, its wingspan is 125 centimeters, and its weight is 1.2 kilograms, according to her.

The raptor was given to the Matalam Community and Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) on Wednesday and released that same day.

According to data from the International Union for Conservation of Nature, there are approximately 600 to 800 adult Pinker’s Hawk-Eagles left in the wild.

At the base of Mt. Apo, the nation’s tallest mountain and a haven for Philippine eagles is the town of Magpet.
