Because the fuel fee for May will be further reduced, local airlines are expecting that more people will be encouraged to go.

The fuel fee will be reduced from Level 6 to Level 5 starting on May 1 and lasting through May 31. This was announced by the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB).

For domestic flights operating under Level 5, the fuel fee ranges from PHP151 to PHP542, depending on the route. The fuel surcharge for foreign flights may be between PHP498 to PHP3,703.

The fuel surcharge level is the lowest since May 2022, according to Cebu Pacific President Xander Lao, who also noted that the ongoing decline in the fuel surcharge enables the airline to offer more cheap flights.

He told the Philippine News Agency (PNA), “We hope this will motivate our passengers to push through with their summer travel plans.”

On the other hand, Cielo Villaluna, a spokesman for Philippine Airlines (PAL), said the CAB’s declaration is a positive move.

“PAL will obediently adhere to this most recent fuel surcharge level that is applicable to tickets being purchased in May. We appreciate our consumers’ steadfast patronage and fidelity, she remarked.

Low-cost airline AirAsia Philippines said in a statement that any kind of decrease in air travel prices is greatly beneficial to all of its passengers because they may use it to purchase more checked bags.

Airlines that intend to impose or collect fuel surcharges are required to submit their applications to Carmelo Arcilla, Director of the CAB, no later than the effective date specified in the advice, which was signed on April 17.
