After exceeding its collection goal from January to March, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) is optimistic in its ability to fulfill its target in the second quarter.

According to BOC spokesperson lawyer Vincent Philip Maronilla, they also hope to meet their internal goal for the period of April to June.

At the Laging Handa briefing on Wednesday, he remarked, “But as far as the target is concerned, our Commissioner together with our collectors are very confident that they will reach their respective targets.”

So, he continued, “I hope we can achieve our internal aim in order to deliver more collection for our nation and for the smooth functioning of our government’s fiscal condition.

In the first quarter of the year, when it collected PHP214 billion, the bureau had a surplus of PHP16 billion, according to Maronilla. The first-quarter revenue goal is PHP197.020 billion.

He ascribed this to the law’s efficient enforcement.

We have been exceeding our collection goal for some years now, according to Maronilla, because the Bureau of Customs’ management and collectors closely monitor the rigorous adherence to our tax regulations.

And because Commissioner (Bienvenido) Rubio and the personnel of the Bureau of Customs understand and appreciate the needs of our government for more funds, he continued, “Our aim is not only to reach the target placed on us by the government this year but to exceed it.

The BOC collected PHP80.133 billion last month, exceeding its collection goal by PHP7.851 billion (10.86 percent).

The highest monthly collection for the year thus far is from March.
