Ilocos Sur encourages artists to participate in the festival’s competition
The National Museum of the Philippines-Ilocos Regional Complex in Vigan City will host the 16th Kannawidan Festival from January 29 to 30, and the Ilocos Sur administration on Wednesday invited artists to participate in the art competition.
One of the highlights of the festival celebrating the 205th anniversary of Ilocos Sur becoming an independent province when it split from Ilocos Norte province through a Spanish Royal Decree on February 2, 1818, is the art competition, which will feature on-the-spot Plein air painting, sculpture, and seed mosaic.
The celebration will also feature, according to Governor Jerry Singson, music, workshops on livelihood, a beauty contest, street dancing, a pride parade, and a liturgy at the St. Paul Cathedral in Vigan City.
The governor remarked, “Attractive awards await winners in the various events.”
Tourists were also encouraged to take part in the celebrations, which run until February, in addition to artists.
