Telcos agree to enhance services in tourism destinations in Sorsogon.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan requested that major telecommunication firms enhance their services, particularly in popular tourist areas. On Wednesday, the provincial government of Sorsogon reported that this request had been favorably received.

After a committee meeting on Tuesday, according to Bobby Gigantone, director of the Sorsogon Provincial Tourism Culture and Arts Office (SPTCAO), the companies agreed to improve signaling and other services throughout the province.

Converge, Globe Telecom, and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Sorsogon City representatives met with the members of the Sorsogon province board on Tuesday. The meeting, which was presided over by BM (Board Member) Maria Ravanilla, was successful. Next week, we’ll have an eye exam and a site validation, Gigantone stated.

The resolution submitted by Ravanilla in the Sangguniang Panglungsod last March, urging telecommunications firms to set up extracellular sites to strengthen their coverage within the major tourist areas in Sorsogon, was discussed during the meeting.

“Telecommunication has developed into a highly powerful instrument that has significantly changed the tourism industry everywhere it is today. Therefore, it is crucial for the province’s tourism industry that network signal and connection are improved in the main tourist destinations, according to a portion of the resolution.

We thought this was an important step toward developing our province’s tourism economy and making it more accessible to visitors, said Gigantone.

He said in a letter that Smart Communications fully backed the provincial board’s initiatives to enhance mobile internet services under its purview.

The municipalities of Bulusan, Pilar, Matnog, Donsol, Gubat, and Sorsogon City were mentioned by Smart about existing site improvements and upcoming site growth plans.

Sorsogon increased tourism promotion earlier this month by launching a new campaign under the tagline “Beautiful Sorsogon! – where beauty is everywhere.”

The initiative promotes the province’s tourist attractions, regional cuisine, and handicrafts.
